- Onboarding strategies
Partnership program types Clym offers
Clym offers two main partnership program types:
- Value Added Resellers (VARs). These are companies that add Clym services to an existing product that they are offering, then resell it as an integrated product or complete "turn-key" solution.
- Technology Partners (TPs). These are technological companies that integrate the Clym service into their platform and make it available to their customers. As opposed to VARs, these companies have full access to the code for the website where they want to embed the Clym services. Thus, they can fully automate and control the onboarding experience.
The characteristics of these options are presented in the table below:

End customer lifecycle overview
All end customers (website owners), regardless of the partnership program type, will go through the following process:
1. Awareness
This is an optional, however a highly recommended phase, where the partner announces the partnership with Clym for data privacy website compliance.
As a partner, you have full control on drafting your communication strategy. We recommend that you start communicating the program at least 30 days prior to the launch so that your end customers are aware and prepared for the onboarding.
Clym provides a quick way to send a custom message right before the onboarding cycle starts through custom email templates per type of action. Read more below about the available actions and learn how to manage email templates here.
2. Onboarding
The scope of this phase is to include the Clym privacy widget code and the footer links into the end customer's website and initiate website data privacy compliance.
Depending on the partnership program types, from the end customer's perspective, this can be done in two ways:
- Through a standard email sequence that includes in the body of the email the Clym privacy widget and footer links and reminds/instructs the end customers to include them into their website. The website owner (or representative) has to have access to the website code in order to complete the Clym installation.
- In an automated, programmatic way. Thus, the end customer will just select / accept the option of activating website compliance in the partner platform, initiate the process via API and directly include the Clym privacy widget code and footer links into their website. The advantage of such an approach is that the website owner does not have to have specific access or knowledge on how to install Clym as this is done programatically.
3. Engagement
The scope of this phase is to incentivize end customers to enhance their website compliance posture by adding required documents such as cookie or privacy policies to their website. This phase is done through a set of standard email sequences that nudge website owners to perform such actions.
4. Operations
During this phase, the system will send standard email notification to manage data subject requests (DSARs) and educate website owners about new regulations being released and actions they need to take to maintain or enhance their data privacy compliance posture.
In the graphs below we present the end customers' (website owners') lifecycle by type of partnership.

Clym tools and onboarding actions
The Clym partner portal provides the following tools to help you onboard your end customer's domains:
- Online form. This will allow you to add domains manually, one by one.
- Bulk import. This will allow you to import a list of domains at once from an excel file.
- API integration. This will allow to programmatically integrate your systems with Clym's partner portal and its related systems.
- Registration widget. This will allow your end customers to self register. It can work as a self contain module where all actions are performed (enroll, scan and invite) or in conjunction with a prior enrollment action. To learn more about the available action, please see the section below.
- Scan widget. Depending on the implementation, this will allow your end customer or internal personnel to scan a website and send a data privacy compliance report.
- Invite. This action can be triggered for a domain that has already been enrolled.
These tools can be used in different combinations to support your onboarding strategy.
Adding a website into the partner portal can be done with one of the following actions:
- Enroll. When this action is performed, the domains are just added into Clym without any additional actions being performed. In other words, the system will not scan or send any reports or onboarding emails. The list of enrolled domains can be used later to validate self registration through the registration widget or to operationalize your customer support process by allowing them to search for a domain and invite its owner to activate compliance.
- Enroll, scan and send report. With this action, the enrolled website will be scanned and the website owner will receive a compliance report. This action is recommended under an opt in model in order to persuade non-compliant website owners to activate compliance. Note that this action will not start the onboarding email sequence, but will just incentivize the website owner to reach out to the partner's customer representative to request the service. The partner's customer representative might search for the domain and invite the website owner to activate the service on their website.
- Enroll, scan and invite. Adding a website with this action will scan the website and send the website owner an invitation to activate website compliance and instructions on how to do so.
- Scan and invite. This action will scan a previously enrolled website and send an invitation to the website owner to activate website compliance.
Note that the availability of these tools and actions depends on how your partner portal account is configured. Please reach out to your account manager at Clym to discuss the onboarding options and have your account configured accordingly.
The availability of these actions per tool in the partner portal is presented in the table below:
Enroll | Enroll, scan and send report | Enroll, scan and invite | Scan and invite
Online form | - | - | yes | - |
Bulk import | yes | yes | yes | - |
API | - | - | yes | - |
Registration widget | - | yes | yes
Scan widget | - | yes | - | - |
Invite | - | - | - | yes |
Note that using Scan and invite action either through the Registration widget or the Invite option requires prior enrollment. This can be done either by importing the websites in bulk (with the action "enroll" or "enroll, scan and send report") or by allowing your customers / personnel to use the Scan widget.
Onboarding strategies
When selecting your onboarding strategy we recommend you to consider the following:
- Commercial model. Would you prefer / are permitted to use an opt out model where you enroll and activate all your end customers by default and allow them to opt out or you are required to promote an opt in model where you market the service to your end customers?
- Access to your customers website code that can determine if you can automate the onboarding flow or not.
- Time to activate compliance on your portfolio. Depending on your internal customer support capacity or other external factors you may want to either activate compliance at once on your entire portfolio or phase it out by first enrolling them and then slowly sending the invitations as they call in or self register.
Please reach out to your account manager at Clym to discuss this options and have your partner portal account configured accordingly.
Depending on your specific use case and the experience you would like to provide to your customers, you may want to consider one of the following most used models:
One step onboarding
Under this model, the partner can use one of the following tools to directly invite the website owner to include the Clym privacy widget code and footer links into their website:
- Online form. Learn more about how to add a new domain one by one.
- Bulk import with the action "Enroll, scan and invite". Learn more about how to add multiple new domains, how to fill in the domains upload file or how to fix the errors in the upload file and resubmit.
- Registration widget. This widget can be embedded on one of your website pages or we can create a dedicated landing page for your customers. Review this article to learn more about the registration widget or visit this page to see where you can get the registration widget embed code. Please reach out to your account manager if you need us to set up a dedicated landing page.
This model is usually used by companies that prefer to onboard and activate compliance on all websites at once.
Note that in case you opt for using the registration widget and this is placed on a public page (not password protected), there might be a chance that users that are not part of your portfolio will get access and create an account with Clym.
Two steps onboarding
Under this model, as a partner you will first need to enroll a pool of domains and then later either invite them or allow them to self register. This model is usually used by companies that prefer to phase out in time the actual onboarding.
Tools available for step 1:
- Bulk import with the actions "Enroll" or "Enroll, scan and send report". Learn more about how to add multiple new domains, how to fill in the domains upload file or how to fix the errors in the upload file and resubmit.
- Scan widget. This widget can be embedded on one of your website pages or we can create a dedicated landing page for your customers. By using this tool as the first step, you will allow your customers to verify their data privacy compliance posture and the invite them individually as they reach out to you requesting it. Review this article to learn more about the registration widget or visit this page to see where you can get the registration widget embed code. Please reach out to your account manager if you need us to set up a dedicated landing page.
Bulk import with the action "Enroll" is used in case of an opt out commercial model as a way to control what websites can self register or to operationalize the customer support process.
Scan widget and bulk import with action "Enroll, scan and send report" are used in case of an opt in commercial model to create awareness about the need to become compliant.
Tools available for step 2:
- Invite. Learn more about how to find an already enrolled domain here.
- Registration widget. This widget can be embedded on one of your website pages or we can create a dedicated landing page for your customers. When used as a second step, the widget will validate the domain the end customer enters against the list of domains that you have previously enrolled. Review this article to learn more about the registration widget or visit this page to see where you can get the registration widget embed code. Please reach out to your account manager if you need us to set up a dedicated landing page.
You can also use the Online form to manage exceptional cases where a customer reach out to you and the domain has not been previously enrolled.
Automated onboarding
This option is done via an API integration. Learn more about how to get your API key here. Please reach out to your account manager at Clym to get your partner portal account set up and get access to the API documentation.
