What are footer links?
Clym provides specific links for users to access the Clym privacy widget if the widget is not automatically displayed. For example, a user who is visiting your website from a location where there is not a data privacy regulation, may not see the widget when first accessing your website. To create short links and easy access to your Clym widget for your users, Clym provides the following direct links that you can embed in your website's footer:
- Privacy Center. This allows users from jurisdictions that do not require prior consent to access Clym's privacy widget, change their data privacy preferences, review your privacy policy or other legal documents, and exercise their data privacy rights.
- Do not sell or share my personal information. This link allows customers from California to quickly submit a "Do not sell or share my personal information" request.
Having the 'Do not sell or share my personal information' footer link on your website is a legal requirement as long as you are serving customers from California, United States of America.
What do the Clym footer links look like?
The footer links will have the following formats. Please note that you will need to copy and paste each code one at a time and place each one in your website's footer.
The link for the "Privacy Center"
<a href="#" onclick="Clym.showWidget('', '', event);">Privacy Center</a>
The link for "Do not sell or share my personal information"
<a href="#"
onclick="Clym.showWidget('/requests/new/do_not_sell_my_information', '', event);
">Do not sell or share my personal information</a>
Please note that the codes above are sample codes, and should not be used on your website. You can find your footer link embed codes directly within your Clym Portal account. Additionally, you may receive your Clym widget and footer link embed codes in your invitation email.
How can I change the text that is displayed on the footer link?
To update the text that appears on the link please follow the steps:
- Sign in to your Clym Portal account. Copy each footer link embed code one at a time.
- Individually, paste each embed code into your website's footer. See the section below (Where do I need to place them on my website) for detailed instructions on how to do it. Alternatively, you can paste the code in any text or code editor.
- Place your cursor after the closing bracket of the opening anchor tag (<a ...>) and the opening bracket of the closing anchor tag (</a>) where it says either "Privacy Center" or "Do not sell or share my personal information".
- Change the text between the brackets to suit your needs.
The links will continue to open the Clym Privacy Widget without changing any functionality, but now the link text will contain your specific wording.
Where can I find them?
There are two ways to access your footer link embed codes:
- From the welcome email we send you once you register (Self-Served Accounts) or you are registered by a partner (Group Accounts);

Where do I need to place them?
As the name suggests, these footer links will most likely appear in your website's footer. While there's no strong requirement to have them there, it is considered a best practice (as you need to make them easily accessible to your customers during their entire navigation experience around your website). For detailed instructions on how to add footer links to your website based on your website-building platform, please review our installation process overview to select the instructions for your platform.
Please note, if you come across any challenges, you can reach out to us via chat or email us at support@clym.io.
