How to enable Wiretapping on a new chat service

Steps to take to set up Clym's Wiretapping solution on a new chat widget service

Clym's Wiretapping solution helps organizations obtain explicit user consent before recording or monitoring conversations through technologies like chat services. Wiretapping consent requirements are separate from standard privacy and cookie consent, necessitating their own consent collection, management, and documentation processes. By enabling Wiretapping in your Control Center account, you can present your website visitors with a clear notification and consent flow before a chat session begins, helping support compliance with applicable wiretapping regulations while promoting transparency and trust.

Setting up Wiretapping is an easy 3-step process:

Please note that if you are using the blocking script, you will not need to sync with GTM, as your scripts will be detected automatically.

1. Sign in to your Clym Control Center account

You should have received a magic link in your initial onboarding email. Please click Sign in from the email to get started. Alternatively, navigate to Clym's home page and click Sign in in the upper right-hand corner.

2. Access the Manage tab

From the left-side menu, select Manage. Expand the Data privacy section and click Services.

Services section

Click +Add service.

Add service button

In the window that opens, click into the following sections to add these details:

Metadata

  • Managed - select how this script is managed
    • Automatically - this script exists in your website's source code and is detected by Clym automatically
    • Clym Tag Manager - this script is injected into your website by Clym

Identifiers - Clym identifies the HTML tags from the source code based on the identifiers you provide. You will only see this section listed if the service is set to be managed automatically.
Script - Provide the script that you would like for Clym to inject. You will only see this section listed if the service is set to be managed by Clym Tag Manager
Processing purpose - Advertising, Analytics, Entertainment, Essential, Functional, Sale and Sharing, Sensitive data processing, Social, or Unclassified, and the category's intended purpose
Data points - select the data category and processed data
Cookies - add cookies that this script might set

If you are injecting your chat script through Clym, ensure that Clym Tag Manager is selected under the Managed drop-down field. If your chat widget script is added to your website's source code, select Automatically.

Click Save.

Managed by Clym Tag Manager

If the service is set to be managed automatically, you must add at least 1 identifier. Clym identifies the HTML tags from the source code based on these identifiers. If an HTML tag matches at least 1 identifier, it will belong to this service. Click +Add identifier to add at least 1 identifier.

3. Enable Wiretapping

Next, expand the Platform menu and select Embedded content.

Embedded content

Toggle to the Chat tab. Under the Providers drop-down, choose the service for which you would like to enable wiretapping on. Toggle on Requires Wiretapping consent. To display a custom message to users regarding wiretapping consent, toggle on Notify users and customize the messaging to your website visitors. Click Save.
