How to install Clym on a WordPress website

Step-by-step guide for installing Clym on your WordPress website

Here’s a quick 2-minute video showing you how to install Clym’s compliance widget onto your website. Below the video, you will also find step-by-step instructions in written form. If you feel this is a task better suited for your webmaster or developer, please send them this link, along with the email instructions you received from Clym.

Before you get started, make sure you have at hand the Clym widget code and the links for "Privacy Center" and "Do not sell or share my personal information". You should have received them via email or you can copy them from your Clym admin account.

Installing Clym on a WordPress website is a 3-step process:

  1. Select the WordPress integration
  2. Add Clym code to your WordPress site
  3. Create footer links

1. Select the WordPress integration

Please sign in to your Clym account or open the email you received containing the privacy widget embed code. Please follow the instructions for step 1 based on which option you are using:

  • FROM YOUR CLYM ADMIN ACCOUNT:
From the left-hand side menu, toggle to Website settings and select Integrations on the domain you would like to add the Clym widget to. Select Setup instructions, and from the pop-up window, select WordPress. A pop-up window will open containing specific steps for installing Clym onto that platform. You will also have the option to access a Video tutorial, which can be viewed above in this article, or to send your instructions to a developer that you are working with.

  • FROM YOUR EMAIL:

Copy the embed code from within the box labeled Clym privacy widget

Note that, to facilitate compliance, this script has to be inserted as the first script under the "head" section of your website. Failure to do so might allow third-party scripts to be loaded on your website and, depending on regulation, that might result in non-compliance. For easy viewing, you may leave space in between the Clym script and any following scripts or code.

2. Add Clym code to your WordPress site

Go back to your WordPress website.  Find Plugins from the left-hand side navigation bar and select Add New.

3. Create custom (footer) links

Please return to your Clym admin account to generate custom links, that typically are used as part of your website's footer.

Please note - there are multiple ways to add Clym's custom links to your WordPress website, depending on how your section/footer is built within your site. The below steps refer to one option. If your website has a different setup, please consult a developer or contact support@clym.io for assistance.

Return to your WordPress dashboard and find Appearance in the left navigation menu. Select Widgets.

Scroll to the footer widgets and click into the footer widget that you would like to add the footer links to, based on wherever you would like for the links to display on your website's footer. For example, adding your Clym embed codes into Footer 1 will add the links to the top of your website's footer.

Please note that based on your geolocation, you may not see the privacy widget. To view Clym on your site, scroll to the footer of your website and click Privacy Center or Do not sell or share my personal information to open the widget. View more ways to verify the installation here
