Steps to take to add a general, data privacy, accessibility, age gating, or sanctions and other restrictions rule for a geographic region or type of device
As technology evolves, the regulatory compliance landscape changes to protect consumers, potentially affecting your business's website. Clym's compliance team's main goal is to help identify the increasing compliance requirements placed on businesses across various categories, including data privacy, accessibility, age gating, sanctions, and additional restrictions, and to help protect our customers.
Clym removes the added stress of needing to keep up with laws as they are introduced and amended. After adding Clym to your website, we automatically update your widget with new features and compliance updates, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.
If you need to implement additional rules to support your business requirements—such as ensuring that your website visitors meet a specific age requirement or displaying a simplified version of the Clym widget for users on mobile browsers to enhance their experience on smaller screens—Clym now offers robust geographical and device-based settings. These settings allow you to establish specific rules effectively.
Please note: If you have not already filled out all of the fields under your Company Data section, it is important to complete this step before creating any custom rules. Depending on your answers to some of the questions in your Company Data section, certain rules may automatically be created based on certain criteria and regulations that may protect your users. To ensure that your custom-created rules are not overwritten, please first complete your Company Data section before creating any custom rules.
Adding a custom rule is an is an easy 3-step process:
1. Sign in to your Clym Portal
You should have received a magic link in your initial onboarding email. Please click Sign in from the email to get started. Alternatively, navigate to Clym's home page and click on Sign in in the upper right-hand corner.
2. Open your Website Settings
From the left side menu, select Website Settings. From here, you will see a list of all your domains, each with its unique settings.
Click the settings wheel next to the domain that you would like to change the default language for. This will open the website settings for that specific domain.
3. Change the widget display mode
From the Website settings menu, select the Geographical and device-based settings drop-down arrow to expand the options. Click the three dots next to the jurisdiction where you would like to create a rule. In the pop-up window, you can click into the General, Data privacy, Accessibility, Age gating, or Sanctions and other restrictions sections to see any existing rules for this jurisdiction. Click ADD RULE+ to create a new rule.
Please note: if you are creating a new device-based rule for an existing data privacy regulation, such as changing your widget to be discrete instead of displaying the full widget for users visiting your website from their phone, you may wish to close the existing data privacy regulation settings to create a mobile rule. To do so, please follow this alternative route outlined at the bottom of this page.
In the following pop-up, please select the Type of rule you are creating: General, Data Privacy, Accessibility, Age gating, or Sanctions and other restrictions. Next, please select the device(s) for which you want to create the rule: Any device, Mobile, Desktop, or Tablet. You may select multiple devices, such as both tablet and mobile.
After selecting the Type and Device, please click through and complete the Widget, Cookies, and Requests settings to ensure that your website visitors who meet this rule's criteria see the proper settings for their jurisdiction. Click submit to create the new custom rule for the selected jurisdiction.
Creating a new device-based rule for an existing data privacy regulation
If you wish to clone the current data privacy regulation settings applied for a region rather than building a new rule from scratch, it is easier to follow this path to create a rule.
Click the drop-down arrow next to Data privacy, and next to Any device, click the pencil icon to Edit.
Next to Device, select the device(s) for which you want to create a new rule. You can select multiple devices. Click Submit. This will create a new rule for this specific device that clones your default settings for this jurisdiction's regulation, including widget settings, cookie settings, and data subject request settings. Under the Data privacy settings for this jurisdiction, you will see the default settings applied to the remaining devices.
