# How to verify Google Consent Mode is functioning properly

## Steps to take to check that Google Consent Mode is properly enabled with your Clym widget

Google Consent Mode is a powerful tool that allows website owners to control and customize their users' ad experience based on their consent preferences. Clym checks the correct implementation of Google Consent Mode (GCM) and the Owner of the property is informed via email if GCM is working as expected. If we detect a latency in the consent signal, you'll receive an email notification that asks you to check the GCM implementation for the respective property.

However, if you have followed the process to manually enable Google Consent mode, it is a good idea to test that the functionality is working properly. Below, we will guide you through the steps to test and verify that Google Consent Mode is operating as expected, in addition to the email confirmation you receive from Clym.

### How does it work?

**When a page loads before consent has been given, Clym sends a negative consent signal to Google by default for website visitors in the EU/UK.❌**

**If consent is given, Clym sends a positive consent signal to Google.✅**

#### 1. Sign in to your Google Tag Manager account

Please sign in to your **Google Tag Manager** account. In the top right corner, click **Preview**.

#### 2. Preview consent before the container-loaded event happens

In the preview window, you should see two consent events before the container-loaded event happens.

#### 3. View consent values after consent has been given

After the Clym widget has been given consent, the consent values in your Google Tag Manager preview should display **Granted** for everything.
