How to enable VPPA on a service
Steps to take to enable VPPA on an embedded content provider
The Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) is a U.S. federal law that protects individuals' privacy by regulating the collection, use, and sharing of video-related data without explicit user consent. This law applies to any website that embeds videos and collects or shares user data, requiring businesses to be transparent and accountable when handling sensitive information.
Whether your website uses embedded videos for marketing, education, or user engagement, these videos can inadvertently share user data with third parties without consent, leading to legal risks, fines, and reputational harm. Clym's VPPA solution helps you adhere to VPPA requirements by obtaining clear user consent, managing preferences, allowing users to withdraw their consent, and controlling data-sharing practices responsibly.
Enabling VPPA is an easy 3-step process:
1. Sign in to your Clym Control Center account
You should have received a magic link in your initial onboarding email. Please click Sign in from the email to get started. Alternatively, navigate to Clym's home page and click Sign in in the upper right-hand corner.

2. Access the Manage tab
From the left side menu, expand the Platform section and click Embedded content, or click Customize.

3. Enable VPPA
Toggle to the Videos section. In the Providers tab choose the service you would like to configure VPPA for and toggle on Require VPPA consent. Click Save.
