Google Tag Manager Google Consent Mode tag firing
If you have Google Consent Mode set up, you can connect any of your Google Tag Manager-managed services to Google Consent Mode signals. This ensures that each service only fires when the appropriate user consent has been granted. By aligning your GTM tags with Consent Mode, you prioritize compliance with privacy regulations while still allowing services to adapt their behavior based on the user’s consent choices.
These consent checks are not necessary to set up for Google Analytics and Google Ads because they are reading the Google Consent Mode signals without manual setup.
Set up Google Consent Mode signals for your individual services in Google Tag Manager
Sign in to Google Tag Manager and access your Tags.

Setup the consent settings for each tag you would like consent enforcement
- In Advanced Settings under Consent Settings
- Set your desired consent signal in Require additional consent for tag to fire
- These can be:
ad_storage, ad_personalization, ad_user_data or analytics_storage
